Year End Concert :) and test

We will be having a year end concert to show off everything you have learned for far this year.  It will be held Thursday May 31st in the evening (time will be announced at a later time) in the gym.
I hope to see you all there :)

You will be having a music test during one class in May.  It will be short and included everything you already know (it wont be anything to worry about).  It will include the treble and bass clef, naming of the lines and spaces for both clefs, rhythms (what notes is worth what number of beat(s)), rests, and a passage of music for your own instrument.  Everyone must also be able to play the concert Bb scale.

When we have the test depends on how much more work is need on our pieces for the concert.  If you have any concern please come and see me for extra help and theory sheets.

World Music Project

Each student has chosen a country or genre to do their assignment on.   I am only able to give one music class in the computer lab so most of the work will be done at home.  Each class has their due date written on their assignment sheet.

Grade 7 World Music Project
“Musical literacy is the ability to understand a wide variety of music as it occurs within a broad range of contexts.   It refers to one’s ability to make meaning out of musical experiences and to use music as a means of personal expression.  It means understanding the organization of music across time and place, the conventions and cultural characteristics of music, and its role in the lives of people.   It means knowing enough about music to function with a certain amount of musical independence and knowing enough about music to value it in one’s life.” (Wiggins, p.3)
Choose a country of the world and research the music of that country.  Write a one page essay about the music of that country and give a brief (one paragraph) background about your country. Along with your essay you will also prepare one of the following: a poster, a brochure, or a presentation on the findings of your essay.  You can use the questions below, as a guide,  to help give you ideas for what to write about when telling me about the music of your country.
What is the history of your country?
How does music impact the people of your country?
How is the music used in the country/ nation?
How has the music evolved over time?
What are the instruments used in your piece?
What rhythms are used in your piece?
Essay 20 marks
Presentation/ Poster/ Brochure 15 marks

Listening Journals

I'm starting to introduce listening journal in music class.  We will be listening to and watch video of popular and classical music.  As we listen to the piece we will be talking about the elements of music, lyrics and in some cases the video.  Students will also be completing some listening at home.  They have a work sheet to complete when doing the listening.

We will not be doing this every music class, we still having theory to complete and playing.
